Colorado Shooting

July 21, 2012 § 12 Comments

A gunman opened fire at a midnight premiere of the Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado Friday morning. Police report that at least 12 people are dead and 59 were injured. The suspect, James Holmes, is in custody and due to be arraigned at 8.30am on Monday morning, at Arapahoe County court in Littleton, Colorado.

The latest senseless rampage to shock America will never be forgotten. This country still remembers the 1999 Columbine school shootings, for example. Indeed, you wouldn’t be alone if the murder spree, apparently carried out by PhD student James Holmes, triggered memories of other mass killings like Columbine.

Holmes’ loner personality is very familiar for that of a mass shooter. The suspect also falls in line with the 95% of rampage killers since 1949 that were men.

But beyond these basic descriptions, how does Holmes fit into the history of rampage killers? Most importantly, what if it was AbdulAziz or Ibrahim, or any other Muslim that was the shooter? Would it still be labelled “rampage killer” or the commonly convenient “terrorist”, or worst still “Muslim terrorist”. I actually do wonder!

Nonetheless, my condolences and heartfelt sorrow to the victims, their families and friends. The world has no room for such mindless, senseless act. For whatever reason.

It’s kind of hard to hit “Like’ button on this… But I am with you on grieving for the victims… How horrible and senseless… Too bad there is no torturous punishment for this kind of crimes. My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. May they stay strong in the face of these trying times…

I never thought of that actually, how do you press the LIKE button for something like this. For the life of me, I just could not understand how and why these things happened.

This is all I’ve been thinking about since yesterday… SO senseless… So cruel… What the loved ones of those who was killed supposed to do now?

  • well written. A very sad story.

    • Bob Othman says:

It is indeed a very sad story. No one should ever go thru that, ever.

I’m reminded of “Bowling for Columbine.” Have you watched that yet? You should if you haven’t… The government was blaming Marilyn Manson for the shooting. Despite the lose gun laws and the fact that you could even get a free gun of your choice for opening a bank account.
        Outrageous I feel.

        • Bob Othman says:

Oh yes, early 2000s movie by Michael Moore. It was just ridiculous with the gun and bank accounts thing. But for one person that’s against the gun ruling, i’d bet there would be 10 that would support the law, in the name of self-defense.

  • Sarmad says:

This is very sad. But i am still confused why James Holmes did that?
And your point about Ibrahim or AbdulAziz is 100% valid.
